About Venditory

Building the connected back office small businesses never had

Venditory started as a fix for my own businesses. Across the three companies I've owned and the five I've managed, I tried many kinds of software for different business needs, and for some needs I could not find any software at all. So I built what was missing. Now a team with 25 combined years in software development builds it with me. Chris S., founder.

Mission

One connected system for small-business operations

The industry

Small businesses were sold a stack of separate tools

Software for small businesses was built one job at a time, by different companies, and you were left to connect the pieces.

Industry history

  • Point of sale, field sales, email and social tools each grew up as a separate company
  • Each one keeps its own customer list, its own stock count and its own login

Cost of disconnected tools

  • Staff retype the same order into two or three systems
  • Two systems that disagree on stock lead to oversold items
  • Every tool sends a monthly bill of its own

Missed information

  • A rep cannot see that a customer already ordered at the counter
  • You wait for month-end exports to see where the money came from

Our answer

  • Four products built on one database from the first line of code
  • One customer, one stock count and one sign-in shared by all of them

Differences

Four products, one set of records

Most small business tools are separate companies with separate records. Venditory is separate apps on one database, so each does its job and all of them agree.

Command, Store, Outbound Sales and Studio each have their own address and their own sign-in screen, and every one reads and writes the same customers, stock and orders.

Our build process

Software built by owner-operators

Job-first design

  • Every screen begins as a task someone in our own businesses did by hand
  • A feature is done when it saves that task, not when it looks finished

Browser-tested releases

  • Each release is opened screen by screen in a real browser before it goes live
  • Money screens are checked so the totals agree across products

Rules live in the data

  • Limits such as credit terms are held by the database, so no screen can skip them
  • A feature a business does not use is switched off in its settings, never deleted

Ship in small steps

  • Small, frequent releases instead of a big yearly upgrade
  • Every product's history is on What's New

Values

Our standards

Plain words

  • Screens name a number in a word or two instead of a sentence
  • Prices are published, so nobody has to call to learn them

Honest status

  • Anything unfinished is marked In development wherever it appears
  • No customer logos and no claim the live demo cannot show you

Data ownership

  • A business can delete its data from Settings whenever it chooses
  • Nothing about your customers is shared for advertising

Answer the phone

  • Support comes from the people who write the software
  • Every message gets a reply within 1 business day

The team

A small team of owner-operators

Experience

  • 25 combined years of software development across the team
  • Every product decision is reviewed by someone who has run a business

Owner-operators

  • The people deciding what to build have run stores, sales routes and payroll
  • Feedback from working businesses sets the order of the work
